Analytics

If your site has its own Google Analytics account, the Rayos Team will place your account’s UA code on your site when you launch. This code will allow you to track your site’s analytics data in Google Analytics in a Google Analytics account you control.

This is an optional configuration. Regardless of whether you have your own Google Analytics account, you will be able to track analytics for your site using a Rayos Team-controlled Google Analytics account. However, having your own account will give you more control over what you can do with the analytics account.

Checklist

Provide Google Analytics Account UA Code

Each Google Analytics account has a UA code associated with it. Send your UA code to your project coordinator.

Note: Google’s UA codes look similar to this: UA-1234567 or UA-1234567-89

If you will use the same Google Analytics account you are using on your current site:

GTxcel will add the UA code for the account used for your site’s analytics analysis to your new site at launch.

Important: Make sure your account isn’t controlled by your current CMS provider. You can identify the account owner by logging in, going to the Admin screen (click the gear icon in the left rail), and looking at the name listed at the top of the Account column.

If your current CMS provider controls the Google Analytics account, you’ll need to ask them whether they will give you control of the account.

If you are creating a new Google Analytics account:

Follow Google’s instructions to set up a new Google Analytics account. We recommend using the same Google account you plan to use to create your Google Keys for your Google Analytics account.

As you create your new account:

  • Under “What would you like to track?”, select Website.
  • Pay attention to the Organization Link area. In certain cases, there can be an option to link the new account to your current CMS provider. If you see that as an option, make sure the box in this area is unchecked.

Important: Historical analytics data for your current site will not be available in your new Google Analytics account.

If you want to be able to access analytics data for your current website after your new site launches, you either need to maintain access to your current Google Analytics account or download any data you wish to keep from your current account before your new site launches.
